Welcome 2017!!

MND, January 2, 2017 ~ Welcome 2017!  Let’s hope after the patience shown by so many of you injured by polypropylene mesh that your patience will finally pay off this year.

January often leaves your editor feeling particularly optimistic and it is very possible that 2017 will be the year that brings some much needed resolution to the lives shattered by polypropylene mesh.

Your thoughts are welcome here for how Mesh Medical Device News Desk can best serve you.

Let’s pray that the mesh makers are seeing your words here and understand that they need to step up and right a wrong.

Let’s pray that your law firms will keep you fully informed and work diligently to update your case as needed.

About the Author:

I’m National News Editor, Jane Akre and I began Mesh Medical Device News Desk aka Mesh News Desk (MND) in the summer of 2011 just after the Food and Drug Administration issued an explicit warning to the public that complications associated with surgical mesh used for prolapse repair (POP) and incontinence (SUI) are NOT rare! That was the starting point for the litigation you see today and thousands of lawsuits have been filed by women whose lives have been altered, some permanently, by the use of this petroleum-based product.

Hi Jane. I’ve had 6 different companies mesh used in me. I’m waiting to see when I’m might receive a settlement from j&j/ethicon. My attorney said he hopes to have good news for me this month. Have you any info out if west Virginia on a new settlement from j&j??

    • Jane Akre January 3, 2017 at 8:39 am - Reply

Nothing in particular. The January 9th Ethicon case in New Jersey settled. So they may be on the settlement track….it does not make sense to continue to fight mesh injured in court…. because they keep losing! I hope your settlement is adequate….

Jane. Do you know of anything going on with Boston Scientific? October 2016 my lawyer sent me paperwork a Plaintiff fact sheet and told me the judge had required it to be completed and filed immediately because there were court deadlines on the paperwork. I called and talked to the paralegal in December and she told me that they had not heard anything else. She did not seem to be in a rush anymore. I just don’t know why this was requested and sounded so immediate and then did not. Can you or anyone else comment on this? Thanks

      I have Boston scientific
2 different meshes both theirs. . My attorney’s office advised me they are still in negotiations with Boston scientific…. .it could be awhile. . I also asked what to expect regarding settlements. .
Her response was not good.. I was not rude but to the point to her.
I will not settle for less than I deserve. I am not out to break them. I was not given the opportunity to say no or yes to the mesh.. I was not told at all only that it was a new procedure ..
I have been living in HELL ever since the surgery from a complete hysterectomy. I am NO different from any of these women in trials. we all deserve to be settled properly..

I have had 4 surgeries over 100 procedures. . Still have this stuff in me, had effected my state of living everyday. Not like this manufacturer that gets up every morning heads to work to support their family..
I am a single mother who has lost everything because of them.. Do not get me wrong, I am not being selfish and go for 12 million or more.. not even 8 million.. but if I could have my ovaries /uterus & cervix back.. I would take it any old day..I fell like I am in a nightmare and can not wake up from it..this is so wrong..but she could not say anything other than there is alot of women. Well they should have thought of that before they placed back on market when it fell the first time under a different name.. let’s be honest because they are not honest companies. . They got caught with there pants down as u can say..

I need my life back and they need to help get it back as close as they can..that’s what I want
I need more surgeries and my health to be taken care of..and I lost everything home, belongings, vehicle because of manufacturers. .
They stated at the very beginnings before trials they have 185 Billion to fight there cases… they should have taken that money and settled settlements the honest way with us women..
Once again she had nothing to say..

Jan, I think you have put this in perspective perfectly. Do you need the names of doctors who might be able to help? Some women have complete removals and return to some normalcy. Please let me know…. janeakre@meshnewsdesk.com

I can barely left my leg to get up are down. .
I now walk with a limp

I may be the reason Lori Cohen had the judge kick MND out of the court in the CR Bard trial but the reason was bogus. I am real and previously contacted Jane Akre. I have had three J & J mesh products installed in me and now a Medtronics intrathecal pain pump with dilaudid. I will soon have clonidine added to relieve my pelvic pain which is not getting relief from dilaudid alone. I have been in pain management for over two years now but have only had the pump since September 2016. I recommend every women who has a mesh disaster on their hands to see a great doctor that uses a Da Vinci robotic surgical system. I did not know about it over a decade ago and I wish I did. I will be going to have my next surgery with a surgeon that has a great success with full removals using the Da Vinci system. I know I would not have had as many surgeries compared to the traditional route. Another issue is that my 3D Ultrasound which exposed my doctor and showed how he kept the truth about the real percentage of mesh left inside me. Before the 3D Ultrasound I was told the doctor removed all but the wings of the devices which are too close to nerve bundles. After the 3D Ultrasound the doctor admitted I had a TVT-O device still fully in tact and much more than just wings left behind.

      ..Tell us your Dr.

      • Maria Garcia January 15, 2017 at 4:16 am - Reply

My removal surgeon was Dr. Peter M Lotze of Women’s Pelvic Restorative Center Houston Texas. He is a good man and a Christian. A surgeon on is a human being and is not as precision as is needed for complete mesh removal because of nerve bundles. Anyone needing mesh removal needs to have it performed by a Da Vinci trained surgical system surgeon specializing in mesh removal. Dr Lotze did all he could do traditionally BUT… I would have NEVER allowed so many surgeries that way. I had a translabial 3D ultrasound examination of the pelvic floor. It proved I was right that more mesh was still inside me and I knew I had to stop and ask one question I should have asked on the first day of my consultation. Dr. Lotze is “Pro Mesh”. You don’t need to know anything more. He has performed many mesh “revisions” on me but admitted he could not take out any more without making things worse. I am going to Dr. Michael Hibner in Phoenix AZ who is a specialist surgeon utilizing the Da Vinci surgical system for removal of mesh. I could have had one surgery all those years ago. I am thankful to know what I do now and will make the most of it. Thank You Jesus!

My mothers lawyers attorneys secretary keeps saying its in litigation and she doesn’t need to call they will contact her. She has no answers and keeps saying that there is no case number. And we can’t find my mothers name any where on the sites that you have on your site. How do we go about getting some answers?

    • Jane Akre January 4, 2017 at 10:31 am - Reply

Look up her case, the instructions are on page one of MND under Resources. Insist on talking to someone. There has to be a case number if it is filed. let me know if you have trouble after following the instructions.

Just because your mother signed a contract for counsel does not mean that an actual case has been filed. I posted an article about this last year when this same question came up. This is a legal strategy of some sort. I will try to locate that article again. I know it sits somewhere in Jane’s archives.

Look up your MDL sounds like MDL (multidistrict litigation) They are numbered according to the comany involved with your implanted meshes (s) Judge Goodwin just put out a bunch of deadlines, get this done by thi date, and then on to the next task, it appears all are in settlement talks but a few cases and they were ordered to the table recently, glad it wasnt me because I can barely get out of bed, many blessing for healing hope this helps ill tr to send you the link and happy new yeqr 2017 is the year for 2187

    • Jane Akre January 4, 2017 at 10:30 am - Reply

I agree Shannon… Judge Goodwin has to be sick of this litigation, he gave both sides a lot of leeway, particularly the manufacturers, now time is up!!!!!

Hopefully we will get some help
I have exhausted all my resources and have to accept what help I can get from local medical …physical therapy where arrogant Drs’ of PT don’ really know what they are dealing with…..and Drs’ who prescribe pricey vitamins and potions as well as expensive estrogen creams. I know there is help for transportation to UCLA….but there is rent and part time job that I am lucky to have. I don’t mean to hurt anyone who is on welfare…but I am not…so insurance is pricey.

The same thing happened to my mom they demanded to get all her medical records and everything by a deadline and after the deadline passed nothing happened why is that?

I’m sorry that doesn’t make sense. Do they understand that TVT-O has been found defectively designed in at least two million dollar cases for the plaintiff and it remains on the market?

    • Kitty January 6, 2017 at 12:56 am - Reply

Ditto. Who are these people. They are liars…liars. I am hoping someone will have mercy on us. I pray
..pray to St Anthony for a miracle. I believe we are being milled

I believe TVT is abdominal surgery now…not transvaginal.

I have a Coloplast Implant was told the first of December that my case had close I should soon receive my closing statement but as of today I’ve not received anything. What’s the holdup???

    • Still standing January 13, 2017 at 7:19 pm - Reply

Marilyn, have you accepted and signed your settlement papers and waiting for your initial check or did your firm just tell you that you would be expecting a settlement letter? Have you looked up your case under the MDL to see if it has been closed? Each would have different answers. Let us know and maybe someone can give you a more specific answer.
