Mesh News Desk (MND), March 6, 2017 ~ Thanks for stopping  by Mesh Medical Device News Desk.

If you are considering a hernia or pelvic mesh implant, you have come to the right place.

There are at least 100,000 lawsuits currently filed in the U.S. to address the injuries allegedly caused by polypropylene pelvic mesh. For now there has been a lull in mesh litigation as, behind the scenes, mesh manufacturers and the injured are at a standoff.

Manufacturers are in an holding out on offering settlements to make the litigation go away, while patients wait for their day in court.

It is an unsustainable standoff and the federal judge in charge of this massive litigation wants both sides to settle. He is doing what he can to force that to happen, unfortunately at the detriment of many women who are offered little to replace the lives they’ve lost.

To make matters worse, some law firms have decided to clear their books of mesh litigation moving onto other mass torts. Some are encouraging women to take what is offered rather than go back to seek additional funds.

Please think twice before you receive a polypropylene mesh implant.

Doctors have been advised by the FDA not to use mesh as a first line of treatment are still doing so.  Women tell Mesh News Desk they are promised the mesh today is different.  It’ still polypropylene and no one can yet tell you why it does not work in some women, or in some men for hernia repair. There is no way to know if you will be one of the unlucky ones, even if your doctor is an “expert.”

UCLA is looking into why so many women and men suffer autoimmune issues following their mesh implants. You can join the registry here.

Shouldice Clinic in Toronto does a non-mesh repair for hernias.  There are a few mesh removal doctors around the country but the better step might be, if you are a candidate, to have your first repair for incontinence, prolapse or hernia to be a non-mesh repair.

The stories are too sad from those who trusted their doctors and decided to go ahead and follow his lead.

So while this is all being sorted out, many decades from now we will look back at this very dark chapter on patient health. Clarity and answers simply do not exist today.

See the story “Top 10 Myths Women are Told Today about Pelvic Mesh” here

If you are told you need polypropylene mesh to correct prolapse or incontinence, you will need to direct your own medical care and be a truly informed consumer. Please see these videos (here and here) on surgery (Careful- they are graphic).   We hope these pages help you toward that goal.

Mesh News Desk does not give legal or medical advice. We may send you some doctors names as a courtesy. If you are seeking a law firm you might fill out the Lawyer Evaluation form on the first page, run by Sundown Marketing. Please do not comment with your last name.

Onward Friends!

About the Author:

I’m National News Editor, Jane Akre and I began Mesh Medical Device News Desk aka Mesh News Desk (MND) in the summer of 2011 just after the Food and Drug Administration issued an explicit warning to the public that complications associated with surgical mesh used for prolapse repair (POP) and incontinence (SUI) are NOT rare! That was the starting point for the litigation you see today and thousands of lawsuits have been filed by women whose lives have been altered, some permanently, by the use of this petroleum-based product.

Jane what do you mean a lull in the litigation? I thought Judge Goodwin was going to get things moving in the Mdl. What about the 400 oldest cases that were supposed to be scheduled for trail? Also what greed if what your saying is true that law firms would throw their clients to the curb over money! Can you post any names of such firms? I hope my firm out of Philadelphia is not one that would do that. I think they have more integrity than that. Any firm that is doing that should be named and called out! Johnson &Johnson/ Ethicon you can drag your feet but remember all you high feeling big wheels will stand before God someday and give an account and all of your money will not save you then!

Those on the schedule in Philadelphia are slowly being settled or going away for whatever reason? I’m awaiting a great wave of trials to begin, again. waiting, waiting………

After reading your post of today, (03/06/17) I find myself feeling sad and defeated.

We cannot let these pharmaceutical companies get away with the wrong they did to our bodies!

Where is the American justice system of our great country? This time cannot be looked back upon as a dark time in patient history. It is 2017…Not 1907!! We need to demand clarity and answers from the doctors and pharmaceutical companies who hurt so many women.

What Johnson and Johnson knew about the Prolift Mesh YouTube presentation, directly tells us how they chose to continue to hurt women with the Prolift. The company reps directly tell us the facts of how they understood this mesh would hurt women!

OK…I am a criminal and here are the facts of my crime! What more do they need to reveal before justice is served?? So sad our country has come to this level. Thank you Netherland for allowing us to see the truth.

    Please Dear God help us!

I’m sorry about the tone of the March hello. It is defeating to see how corporations rule America. Very sad. When I see Alex Gorsky invited to the White House I have to wonder what they are talking about? Green light, do what you want. Ban regulations, decommission the agencies we have that protect the public good. I get sad too and I’m not injured. I’m sorry……..Perhaps this is just the calm before the storm!!

      Sad………..My sentiments Exactly!
When is our Criminal Justice System going to step in and make these pharmaceutical giants accountable for the devastation they have caused us?

They are all praying on our silence if we all got together and paid some brave media company to do a documentary on major network and called all this out on major media I guarantee we would put an end to this injustice. This includes the government FDA the judicial system big pharma. They are all happy we are keeping quiet so they can rape us some more. So tired of the foxes watching the hen house. This country and money is ruining everyone of it’s citizens. We are the ones financing the rape and pilledge of ourselves. We must stand up for justice. Why should we wait for justice any longer. The evidence is already there. Why is it still being dragged out. These companies should be closed if this is how they do business.

WOW! Isn’t BSC just the “cat’s meow” – Sorry guys, too little too late. Don’t you think? You’ve damaged over 20,000+ women and NOW you’re telling us you’re “studying” these kits! What a joke – unfortunately, on innocent women!
Boston Scientific Completes Enrollment in 522 Clinical Trials

We at Boston Scientific are pleased to share that Boston Scientific has completed enrollment in all three 522 post-market clinical studies as originally committed following the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Safety Notifications related to transvaginal mesh.

Across three studies focused on the Solyx™ Single-incision Sling System, Uphold™ LITE Vaginal Support System and Xenform™ Soft Tissue Repair Matrix, we have enrolled nearly 1,000 patients at 55 clinical trial sites. Enrollment was completed in the Solyx System vs. Obtryx™ II System study in December 2014 and in the Uphold LITE System and Xenform Soft Tissue Repair Matrix studies in December 2016. Additionally, we are on track for our Premarket Approval (PMA) submissions for Uphold LITE Vaginal Support System and Xenform Soft Tissue Repair Matrix.

In addition to these efforts, Boston Scientific continues to actively partner with leading researchers in two large-scale clinical projects.
    • Pelvic Floor Disorders Registry (PFDR) – In collaboration with the American Urogynecological Society (AUGS) and other Industry partners, Boston Scientific is part of a national patient registry to evaluate the effectiveness, quality of life and safety associated with native tissue repair and mesh repair.
    • SUPeR study – Boston Scientific has contributed funding to a randomized, blinded study to compare the effectiveness and safety of two transvaginal apical suspension strategies for uterovaginal prolapse. The SUPeR study is conducted by the Pelvic Floor Disorders Network (PFDN), a multi-center network of the National Institute of Child Health and Development (NICHD).
Boston Scientific will continue to demonstrate our commitment to clinical evidence through the successful completion of our 522 clinical studies and subsequent data publication in the areas of transvaginal mesh kits, single-incision slings and biologics. Wow…according to my attorney’s office if a case is “fluid” that’s a good thing…..I have discovered fluid does not mean productive…oppressive is what comes to mind…sadly oppressive. What we are expected to “settle” for should embarrass these supposedly progressive manufacturers. Guess they think we are all actually financial heiresses, not in need of medical assistance…or bread!

    • Anonymous K March 26, 2017 at 6:14 am - Reply

Yes Deborah they should be ashamed! Just received my offer in the mail and what a joke! We have to stand together and wait for our day in court ladies as my life and every woman’s life is worth more than this, they took my life away as I knew it and need to pay for that as we only get one life to live and our lives have been forever altered!

      • Still standing March 26, 2017 at 7:10 pm - Reply

Anonymous K, please talk through this with your attorney. Many women who refuse the offers are dropped by their attorney, then there is little recourse because new attorneys are reluctant to take up your case. While the “everyone needs to stick together” call to action is a moral given, every woman has an individual case that is negotiated by her attorney. Refusing to settle for moral reasons is very different from the reality at hand. It is a harsh reality for sure. What you decide to do impacts your case only. And it is a decision that you make engaged with your attorney being fully informed about what will happen next in your individual case. Try to get the facts without bringing in your tremendous pain and emotional suffering. There will never be enough money to compensate for that.
