About the Author:

I’m National News Editor, Jane Akre and I began Mesh Medical Device News Desk aka Mesh News Desk (MND) in the summer of 2011 just after the Food and Drug Administration issued an explicit warning to the public that complications associated with surgical mesh used for prolapse repair (POP) and incontinence (SUI) are NOT rare! That was the starting point for the litigation you see today and thousands of lawsuits have been filed by women whose lives have been altered, some permanently, by the use of this petroleum-based product.

Thanks for keeping us up to date on these numbers, Jane. These numbers give a truer picture of complications from vaginal mesh than any clinical trial past or present.

How can NICE (the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) in the UK be happy to publish a recent update to their guidelines on the treatment for incontinence (CG171) which still supports TVT synthetic slings? This is despite Ethicon mesh being named in over 10,000 cases from what I can gather in the above article.

The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists are remaining wilfully blind to this problem. Perhaps there just aren’t enough trained surgeons who can perform alternatives like colposuspension any more.

    The pain is severe

    Them mental suffering is worse

The loneliness is a killer and the loss of consortium with your mate is devastating.

NO Dollar amount can bring these things back

Pain is so severe. I bled for a year in 2011 only to find out it was mesh erosion, had surgery and I still suffer

bladder infections. Have had 2 revision surgeries so far and I fear I am not done yet. Loss of consortium hurts.
