Why should you vote for Chambers?
Chambers was invited recently to Washington, D.C. by Rep. Ed Markey to support the Sound Devices Act (here) which would stop the approval of medical devices if their “predicate” was recalled for being defective.Chambers first became alerted to the huge safety loophole that exists in medical device approvals when her brother became the recipient of an elbow replacement prosthesis that began popping and creaking. Four months later the elbow was blue, green and he was in extreme pain. No doctor can help and no lawyer wants the case. “I am not in medical and legal purgatory” says Steven Baker of Bloomington, Minn.Chambers and Baker went with Consumers Union to support Rep. Ed Markey’s Sound Devices Act, which was not approved. Story here.
She says "Joint replacements are the #1 expenditure of Medicare. The process of approving these medical devices is flawed according to the Institute of Medicine. It is time for patients' voices to be heard as stakeholders and for public support for increased medical device industry accountability and heightened protections for patients. Post-market registry. Product warranty. Patient/consumer stakeholder equity. Rescind industry pre-emptions/entitlements. "
