Alex Gorsky, the CEO of Johnson & Johnson will have to defend his claims about his company’s baby powder after singing its praises to investors in a July 17 call with analysts.
Alex Gorsky has been ordered by a Missouri judge to submit to questioning by lawyer Mark Lanier of Houston.
Gorsky made public statements following a $4.69 billion asbestos verdict for the plaintiffs defending the talcum-based powder claiming its free of asbestos and is not a health threat that many claim leads to the development of ovarian cancer. Whoops!!

What does Gorsky know?
In making that claim, he opened the door for the lawyer to find out what Gorsky knows about the “science of talc safety.”

Lanier was one of the lawyers who secured the St. Louis jury verdict July 12, the sixth largest defective product verdict in U.S. history, reports Bloomberg.
The women claim the powder contained asbestos and that J&J knew for 40 years of the risk of cancer but failed to warn users.
A St. Louis jury delivered not just a $500 million in damages for the plaintiff, but added $4.14 billion, bringing the total verdict to $4.7 billion against J&J.
That amount is to be divided among 22 plaintiffs who all claimed their ovarian cancer resulted from the long-term use of talcum powder products made by J&J -Shower-to-Shower and Baby Powder.
